The first thoughts of forming a Golf Society at the Bell Inn came at the end of another disastrous darts season with the Bells darts team anchored well and truly at the bottom of the league. Three of the would be founding members of the Golf Society were staring forlornly in to the bottom of their pint glasses saying that there must be something better in life than being thrashed at darts every week.

Then in May 2001 came the arrival of our new landlords Warren and Maggie McDivitt who brought with them a fanatical love for golf. This enthusiasm soon rubbed off on to the dissalusioned dart players and other pub regulars and before long talk of a golf society was the topic of every conversation.

In September 2001 we held our first meeting at which we officially formed the Bell Inn Golf Society and organised our inaugural golf day to be held at Wychwood (formerly Lyneham) Golf Club. Friday 1st November dawned bright and clear and 15 members wedged themselves into the local Hedgehog community bus and we set sail into the hills toward Wychwood Golf Course to play in our first ever Bell at Willersey Golf Day. By nightfall that day we had had the most fantastic day good golf, bad golf, laughter, great food and great company a theme which has continued ever since. Since that day our membership has grown steadily to 50 members and in March 2007 we celebrated our 40th Golf Day at our local course at Broadway.
